The staff at the Essex Free Press have always appreciated the importance of preserving local history. At one time, we made old issues of the paper available to the public in bound broadsheet and, more recently, tabloid format. Unfortunately, newsprint doesn’t stand the test of time and newspapers dating back to the late 1890’s or even as recently as the 1970’s can no longer be handled without risk of damage.

To ensure that the history of our local community is not lost, The Essex Free Press has participated in an ambitious project to preserve old papers as microform. People wishing to review old copies of the paper can use the microfilm or microfiche versions of The Essex Free Press, which are available at the following public institutions:

Essex Public Library – 18 Gordon Street, Essex- 1895 to 2003

University of Windsor – Leddy Library – 1895 to 1968
Call Number: AN .E75
Location: Serials (microfilm) - Compact Storage
